Minor in Geography


Program Information:

The minor in geography provides students with an opportunity to explore topics of interest from an international and geographic perspective and is an excellent compliment to a variety of degree programs such as Political Science, Sociology, Natural Resource and Environmental Management, International Business, Global Studies, History, Economics, and Geology among others. The minor is designed to be completed in conjunction with general education degree requirements.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

MINOR IN GEOGRAPHY  (16 HOURS)

  A)  THE FOLLOWING COURSE IS ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED:

GEOG 1114

4 HRS 

Physical Geography

  B)  EITHER OF THE FOLLOWING COURSES:

GEOG 1113

3 HRS

Introduction to Cultural Geography

GEOG 1753

3 HRS

World Regional Geography

  C)  ELECTIVES IN GEOGRAPHY:

GEOG XXXX

9 HRS

9 additional hours of geography
At least 6 hours must be at 3000 level or above

THE MINIMUM GRADE FOR ALL COURSES TAKEN IS A "C"


PROCEDURE

Contact the Undergraduate Advisor in Geography during your final semester at OSU to arrange for the Minor Form to be completed and sent to the college office/Registrar.


DOCUMENTATION

There is no “declaring” of minors at OSU; you simply complete the courses and request that the advisor in the minor department complete the paperwork. No records are kept while you are pursuing the minor.


TRANSCRIPTS

A notation will appear on your final transcript indicating the minor(s) right below the major degree granted. Minors do not show up on your transcript (or SIS) until you graduate no matter how early you finish the minor.
